Project Brief
From Malware Mayhem to Website Success: Revitalizing The Rock Coolum
Goal: To rebuild a secure and functional website that attracts customers, improves online visibility, and facilitates lead generation.
Challenge: The Rock Coolum’s previous website was plagued by malware infections, redirecting visitors to harmful websites and displaying inappropriate content. This severely damaged their online reputation and resulted in declining traffic (down to 935 visitors per month as of October 2024). Additionally, they faced issues with email deliverability, further hindering customer communication.
I implemented a complete website overhaul, starting with a fresh WordPress installation. To ensure a smooth transition, I meticulously scraped content from the old site and imported it into custom fields within custom post types. This streamlined approach empowers The Rock Coolum’s team to easily update website content without relying on complex page builders.
Key features of the new website include:
Enhanced Security: I prioritised security by thoroughly scanning for malware and implementing robust protection measures to prevent future attacks.
Improved User Experience: The redesigned website boasts a clean, modern layout that is intuitive and user-friendly, encouraging visitors to explore products and services.
301 Redirects: I strategically implemented 301 redirects to preserve valuable link juice from the old site’s URLs, minimising any SEO impact during the migration.
Data Tracking & Analytics: Google Tag Manager and GA4 were integrated to accurately track website performance metrics, including phone clicks and form submissions, providing The Rock Coolum with valuable insights into user behaviour.
Strengthened Email Security: To ensure reliable email deliverability, I migrated The Rock Coolum to new hosting and meticulously configured their DNS settings. This included verifying MX records for proper mail routing, implementing SPF (Sender Policy Framework) records to authenticate outgoing emails and prevent spoofing, and potentially configuring DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) for enhanced message integrity.
Results
The revamped website has yielded impressive results:
Website traffic experienced a remarkable 53% increase, jumping from 935 visitors per month in October 2024 to 1426 visitors by February 2025, reaching a peak of 1613 visitors by December of the same year.
The website has generated over 1100 phone call clicks and 123 form submissions over a 12 month period since launch, demonstrating a strong call to action and increased lead generation.
By addressing The Rock Coolum’s critical security concerns and implementing a user-centered design, I was able to revitalise their online presence, drive traffic growth, and position them for continued success in the competitive landscape supplies market.
